What Makes iworldpeople Different?
iworldpeople will make a significant contribution to the building of communities throughout New Zealand. It allows local people to post items on issues and subjects that are important to them and their neighbours and provides an excellent forum for real community conversations to emerge.
The team at iworldpeople believes that by providing an intense local focus and the mechanisms for communities to connect and converse again, each site will become a community hub and the first place people go to for information and news about their community.
All of our sites are "self-publishing", allowing people to add their own content such as news, events, notices, opinions and more. Others in the community can comment on and contribute to posted items. Local classified ads allow people to buy and sell within their community, rather than wrap and post something to send to the other end of the country.
We have an exciting range of free and reasonably priced online services suitable for local businesses and organisations needing an effective online presence. Businesses, clubs and non-profit organisations can create their own directory listings, web pages and online advertisements, or we can do it for them.
How will local people, businesses and other organisations use the site?
The local newspaper does not have the resources to cover all of the issues that affect people in every suburb, every day. But iworldpeople sites can do just that. Community members will start discussions on such topics as speeding on residential streets or new council by-laws. Alternatively, they will use the site to ask their neighbours for a recommendation for a good plumber or publish photos of the local school carol service. Unlike one-person web logs, iworldpeople community sites are intended to be highly interactive, collaborative places.
Local businesses and organisations will find it simple to communicate with their customers and members using their local iworldpeople site. Web pages (that users can create and update themselves, 24/7) can be used by a business as their web site, an online newsletter, or restaurants can post their menus, for example. If a business has a sale, they can place a small advertisement that links through to their iworldpeople WebPage, or to their own web site if they have one. Non-profit organisations and clubs can use an iworldpeople WebPage to assist with fund raising, advertise events, and communicate information to members. The possibilities are endless.
Most communities have only one local newspaper; advertising can be pricey. The Yellow Pages charges local businesses for a national presence, even though they have no need to reach a national audience. iworldpeople fills this gap by providing high-value, low-cost services to local communities.
About the Vacancies
The Website Editor is responsible for starting and building a community site. This involves promotion of the site and creation of content to make the site come alive. The position is currently offered on the basis of a contract requiring a commitment of 10 to 20 hours per week. Payment is per hour plus commission paid for business webpages obtained. Are you a good writer with sound people skills and looking for part time work? This opportunity may suit you.
The roles of Community Coordinator and Business Services Consultant have been designed to allow two people to work together to encourage local people to use their iworldpeople web site as a hub where individuals, businesses, non-profit organisations and clubs and in the area can have their on-line home, and to make use of the range of services we can offer.
Although each site is completely self-publishing, our research has shown that the best community sites around the world are those with a genuine local presence - ie someone behind the scenes who really knows their community and has a commitment to the success of their local web site.
While many community members will enjoy the flexibility of being able to create and maintain their own iworldpeople web pages and advertising, some businesses and organisations may be too busy or lack the confidence to put their online presence in place themselves; in these cases, we can create and manage their iworldpeople web site and advertising for them.
We need Community Coordinators to encourage as many businesses, clubs, organisations and people as possible to use the site, so that it truly reflects the fabric of each community and the news, events, views and issues that are happening there
andWe need Business Services Consultants to work with local businesses and organisations to establish and implement the most effective iworldpeople online services for them (both free and paid).
More about the Community Coordinator Role
What does the role actually involve?
Firstly, this role could be filled by an individual, or by a non-profit organisation or club wishing to generate an income.
Overall, you'll be telling people in your community about iworldpeople and how they can use the site for their benefit.
When a business or other organisation needs help in identifying and putting in place any of the services we provide, you'll arrange a visit from an iworldpeople Business Services Consultant working in your area.
You'll also be seeking out content for your site, to ensure it's a really useful, up-to-date resource for everyone in the community.

While you certainly don't need to be a professional, an interest in the media, writing, and finding out what's happening in your local area will be a key part of your success.
You'll be someone who loves to learn and enjoys a challenge - we're at the cutting edge of community journalism in New Zealand, so there's plenty to be done!
