FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Individual Membership

Why do I have a nickname with my Individual Membership?
Your nickname is the name your items will be published under if you prefer some anonymity. You can, of course, use your own name as your nickname, if you wish and if that name is not already used. Every time you publish something, your nickname is attached to the published item.

Can people find out who I am?
You are in control of that aspect. If you choose to use your real name as your nickname for publishing purposes then people may know who you are. If you choose to have a signature line as a sign off to your publications, this will be shown underneath your publication.

Is there a limit to the number of accounts I can have with my Individual Membership?
There is a limit of five with individual membership. If you need more than that; e.g. if you are the club secretary of a number of organisations or the manager of a business it may be better to take a separate business and/or organisation membership for them.

My community is not listed with iworldpeople?
Please tell us about it. We have alot of communities, however some vibrant local communities may have been missed. If you have a strong community that could benefit from an iworldpeople community site, please let us know and we will create a site for you.

I know something that's going on in my community that I don't see on iworldpeople. What should I do?
Publish it to your community! Write and post a news article, include a photo if you have one, add it as an event if it is upcoming. iworldpeople is your place to go to share local information with your neighbourhood.

How do I submit content to iworldpeople?
Submitting content to iworldpeople is easy. Once you have joined and completed an account form listing the communities where you want to publish information, then it is as easy as filling out a simple form. You can publish local news, events and notices, photos and you can publish an opinion about something that is happening in your community. Alternatively, start by adding your comments to what other people have published.

Here's how it works;

  1. You've got something you want to publish, some local news, a photo, an event, a notice, an article or opinion, a compliments to either a business or person, or a classified ad.
  2. Sign-up with iworldpeople.
  3. Go to your My iworldpeople account page.
  4. Create your publication, and choose which communities you want to publish it to.
  5. Click "preview" to see what it looks like.
  6. If you don't want to publish until later, click "save". It will save to your my iworldpeople account page until you decide you want to publish it.
  7. Click "publish". Your item will automatically appear on the site.

If you decide you want to change something on the item you published, you can do this even after it has been published through your My iworldpeople account page.

If you decide you want to delete your item from the site, go to you're My iworldpeople account page and hit the delete button next to your item.

I'm not a very good writer. Do you have any tips?
It doesn't matter if you are not a good writer. Most of the content on iworldpeople is not written by trained journalists, but by locals, just like you. So it doesn't have to be written as a trained journalist would, it's far more important that you share your news or views. Write it as you would tell it to a friend or neighbour. Always tell the truth.

What if I publish something and then I want to change it or take it off the site?
You are in total control at all times. Go to your "My iworldpeople page" and you will see a list of your published items. The status of those will be shown; "draft" (which means not yet published) or "published". You can either make changes to the publication, or to remove it from the site, just click "delete".

If, instead of joining iworldpeople, you have simply created a directory listing for your business, organisation or club, you will need to join iworldpeople in order to make changes to your listing.
When you created your Directory Listing, we sent you an email confirming it and in the email we gave you your "secret fast listing code". So when you join iworldpeople, you will be asked if you have a fast listing code. Enter it in the box provided. After joining, go your My iworldpeople page and your listing will be shown there. Now you can make changes to your listing and use all of the iworldpeople services.

Does anyone edit or approve content before it appears on the site?
When you first join iworldpeople, your account status will be shown on your my iworldpeople page as "moderated". This means that our Site Manager has not yet reviewed and authenticated your membership. With your account status shown as "moderated" you can still start publishing. Before your items are actually posted to the site, they will be reviewed first by the Site Manager. Once your membership details have been authenticated, your account status will be changed to "trusted".

We do not review content published by our members who have "trusted" status, there is just too much of it. When content is brought to our notice that, in our judgement, violates the
Publishing Guidelines or our
Terms and Conditions or
Privacy Policy, we will delete it and may terminate the account of that member. If you see something on the site you think is inappropriate, click the Report Abuse link, and tell us about your concerns. For more information on account status, go to
Becoming a Trusted Account Holder.

Should I publish personal information?
That is entirely up to you. However please don't post anyone else's personal information. Internet sites are available for anyone on the internet to read, so please keep other peoples personal details out of your posts and comments unless you are sure what you are publishing is publicly available information and the people involved will not be concerned.

Can I submit a press release to the site?
Yes, but use the appropriate area and category. The business category in News and Events is the appropriate place for non- advertorial information about a business. Advertising masquerading as news or articles goes against the spirit of iworldpeople. There are specific places on the site to advertise, which have a small fee attached. This is what helps us to provide this service. However,we encourage you to post press releases, articles as "expert opinion" pieces and to publish news about your business, such as introducing a new staff member. There are lots of ways to promote your business or organisation on iworldpeople for free.

How does information get posted to the region and community home pages?
iworldpeople is a highly automated site, we do not have an editor who chooses what publications go where. Each of the region and community home pages will show the latest five items published in each category. How long they stay there depends on when new items are published. If iworldpeople staff post an item it takes its turn with all the content provided by the community.

My item is not displaying correctly or the introduction text on the home page is missing.
This problem occurs if the text is copied and pasted from Word. If you want to copy and paste from another document we recommend you first save it as a text only file and then paste clean text into the site editor. One way to do this is to save into Notepad and copy and paste from there.

Can I include a link to another site in a post or comment?
Yes. When you are creating your item for publication, it is easy to create a link across a word or words you select to link. However, some site owners do not want links to their site and in particular deep links which bypass their home page. Before you link into another site you should check that the site owner does not have a restriction on this practice.

Can I add photos or images to my iworldpeople publications?
Yes. Photos and logos may be attached and iworldpeople has made it easy to add these. For more detail on uploading photos, go to Uploading a Photo.

Can I submit articles and opinion on a regular basis?
Yes. You can either publish items on a regular basis or you can contact us and ask to be set up as a regular contributor. If you are set up as a Regular Contributor, your items will appear on the community and region home page under the banner "Latest Regular Contribution".If you are a small business owner wanting to raise your profile in your community, this is one way to do that.

I know about a local Web site how can I add it?
Click the "Local Websites" link on the page for the community the site is associated with and then click on "Submit a Link" and tell us about it by filling in the form.

Can I have my Blog listed as a local Web site?
Yes you can and it will be listed in the Blog category. We will review blogs to ensure they are actively being posted to and are appropriate for listing as a community information resource.
