Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand

The iworldpeople Bay of Plenty Region encompasses the Local Authority territories of Western Bay of Plenty, Whakatane, Opotiki, Kawerau, Rotorua, Taupo and Ruapehu Districts.

The Region, which is largely rural in character with significant service towns, adjoins the Waikato and Tauranga Regions in the North, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay- Gisborne in the West and South. On the East is the Pacific Ocean.

The Region has a population of more than 206,000 and has more than 13,000 businesses. Timber processing, including pulp and paper is a key to the Region's economy; as is tourism, especially as centred on the thermal area around Rotorua, the recreational possibilities around Lake Taupo and the winter sports on Mount Ruapehu.
