Northland Region of New Zealand

Northland is New Zealand's northernmost region, being a long, narrow peninsula with a subtropical climate and scenic coastline. It comprises 3.72 million hectares and encompasses the territories of the Far North District Council, Whangarei District Council, Kaipara District Council and Rodney District Council; with a combined population of 221,739. About a third of the population is of Maori descent.

The iworldpeople Northland Region is bounded on the South by the Auckland North Shore and Auckland Waitakere Regions.

Northland's economy is based on pastoral farming, with over half the land devoted to dairy, beef and sheep farming. However growth in forestry, horticulture, and tourism is contributing to the region's growth. The region has a rich and varied history and is a popular holiday and recreational sporting destination.
